Blooming Great Kids: Term 1 Week 10: Respecting Differences and Gender Respecting Differences
There are many things we have in common and share at Lalor Gardens PS. However, there are many ways in which we differ. Some of us like football, while others prefer netball. Some like maths, others prefer reading books. Some peo- ple like to listen to CDs, others like to play on the computer. Some people like to barrack for AFL team Collingwood Football club while others prefer to barrack for Melbourne Storm Rugby club or Melbourne Victory Soccer team. Some of us are tall, some of us are short. Some are strong while some are fast. In some way or another, we are all differ-
ent and that makes us all the more interesting. It would be pretty boring if everyone went around doing ex- actly the same thing we would all be like robots. Thankfully we are not robots, we are human and we are all different. Rather than worrying about these differences, we need to accept them and also to celebrate them, just like we celebrate the many countries and cultures we come from. It is good that we are all different from each other and all special and unique.

Respecting Gender
There are so many things we have in common and so many interests we share that often we assume/think that everyone thinks and behaves the same as we do. Certainly there are many things that nearly all kids like – Playtime, Music, PE, winning a prize, playing with our friends. There is a huge list. But sometimes we need to consider that there are people who have different interests to us and that their interests are just as worth-
while. And sometimes the difference is between boys and girls.
While many boys and girls share the same interests, sometimes they do not. Sometimes they like to play different games, watch different TV shows, or even listen to different types of music. All of that is OK! It does not make one bet- ter than the other. We need to respect both males and females and the choices they make, and be happy that there are at times differences.
I can’t really believe it! We are at the end of term 1 2015. It just seems like yesterday that we were beginning the year’s journey together. Think about what we have achieved:
• Our Start Up Program
• T esting Program grouping of students
• Implementation of our teaching and learning programs
• Curriculum Information evening
• Activity Sports Day
• Synthetic Turf installation
• Shade Sails installation
By the beginning of term 2, the Foundation—2 Sensory Garden and the Blue Room renovation will be completed. Then we can concentrate on further planting of areas around the school. I wish all our families a happy holiday break.
This is a reminder that school finishes at 2.30 pm. Assembly will be at 2.15 pm. Make sure your child is picked up from school at this time.
